Count the passes

Monday, April 24th, 2006

Hey peeps, just something linzi showed me thats really interesting, watch the following video and count the number of passes of the ball between people. Dont count the bounces, just the passes.
Comment with how many passes you count

Heres the page with the video on it, it uses a Java applet for some reason so make sure uve got that installed.

Go on, go count the passes

Now once uve watched the video and counted all the passes watch the video again without counting…

Poi

Thursday, April 20th, 2006

Quite simply, last year my house mates (you know who you are) bought me a lovely pair of Fire Poi. Now this seems like a good pressie for a juggly type person like myself. However, i had absolutly NO idea how to use the buggers…. till now. Miskin has provided me with lessons from Simon in how to do Poi. I just needed 10 minutes with someone who knew what they were doing and i was set. I can now do simple stuff but its a start.
So i was chatting to linzi about Labyrinth, and specifically the Dog from it (Ambrosius) and then got chatting about Contact Juggling (Bowies character does it) then followed the Wiki

Kittens Vs Spam

Friday, April 7th, 2006

You know the anti spam measures used on websites, those annoying boxes of garbled text convoluted in such grotesque manners to usualy require concentration and a level of guesswork that just isnt needed in the modern day.
Enter Oli, a random guy who got fed up of the boxes filled with symbols and wanted a new method of authentication. In a stroke of genius (althou ive seen similar methods, but nothing this cute) he created the Kitten Authentication System. All you need to do is click the three kittens on the page to be authenticated, simple yet adorable :)

St(r)eaming Piles of TV

Thursday, March 9th, 2006

After news that the Beeb were looking into streaming out BBC 2 over the net a few months ago, a trial was setup. Now while this needed registrations and suchlike it was a bit of a flawed system. Locked into Windows Media Player, the interface was buggy, it wasnt that fun to use.
However, the boffins at BBC R&D have been tinkering away and have released a Trial Multicast of BBC and ITV channels. Yup, ITV are involved as well, this is how big this move is. The multicast trial is only avaliable to users of certain multicast enabled ISPs, if your isp is one of these :

Will is Right

Thursday, March 2nd, 2006

Found this amazing video from the Games Developers Conference by Will Wright, the guy behind Maxis, bringing games like Sim City, The Sims, and so forth. Hes in my top 4 developers list, including such legends as Chris Sawyer(Transport Tycoon), Peter Molyneux(Black and White), and John Carmack(Wolf3D/Quake/Doom/Keen).
Will Wright was demonstrating a fantastic looking game which keeps to his principle of no violence in games (albeit a bit here and there) Spore is a game that spans from evolution of a tiny tiny organism eating green blobs to fully fledged intergalactic sci-fi, with everything in between. Its an epic 35 min video, but i couldnt take my eyes from it.

Bra SimThe world of the internet is a dark and myseterious place as many times i have observed. However, this is both Cool and Funny at the same time. Not content with allowing women to meerly be objects of facination when designing bras for sporty types these clever people (probably blokes) have created a Bra Simulator. Its technically advertising for a Sport Bra. You can go along and select your Cup size (A throu to FF&G) and then your level of activity from Light (Yoga) to Extreme (Horse Riding) all to be followed with a beautifully presented strip of modeled animations. A Noody one for the virtual blokes out there, a Bra’d version and a

Batman Comes Home

Saturday, February 25th, 2006

You know how it goes, batphone rings, “We need ur help Batman” off he pops to some arbitary room, twists a candle, presses a button, pulls a book from a shelf or all manner of other handy secret switches and bosh a door magically opens leading down into the inner sanctum of the cave. Unadulterated cool stuff. I personally think i’d be awsome to have a secret room/passages in my house, photo frame moves up to reveal a Biometric finger scanner which then twists a bookshelf around revealing my desktop computer study area. Handy or wot.
And guess what, I CAN! Thanks to the guys at hiddenpassageway.com you can buy urself all the bits and bobs needed to create your

Doogle

Again with the Irish connection, its nothing personal linzi, its just such a hillariously silly country. Along with France one of the few countries i think of often as being worthy of discussion, albeit for reasons such as potatoes, drink and father ted. So when i found a search engine dedicated to the Irish i had to investigate, and with links such as Feck, Drink, Arse, Girls and Eurovision and the I’m Feeling Lucky replaced with “I’m Feeling Bolloxed” i had to give it a whirl.
