Why am i here?

Tuesday, January 31st, 2006

Its Nix, Its 5 and im still here for another hour….
Ive been around this deparment since 9 this morning. I’m going to go mad. Thankfully i’m surrounded by peeps in a similar situation. Still sucks the proverbials. Found a handy book on Huffman Enc. for Neil and also found out that Alternative Neil has 7000+ rows with the word “porn” in the domain name on his DB. Always good to know such things. I want to convince him to let me have a query box to see words in domain names. Fat chance thou, takes AGES to search.
Got a phone call from someone today asking to visit the house… i’m not sure why i’m getting all the calls, especially when

Rome wasnt built in a day

Tuesday, January 31st, 2006

Hey all, nothing too interesting, its 1AM and i have a lecture at 9, have a funny feeling that Factory aint going to be much fun this final semester. :( Didnt go out with Gav in the end wasnt too bothered in fairness, wasnt upto going out anyway. And i actually managed to do some work on my Final Year Project :O I didnt actually do anything specific, i spent an awful lot of time sprucing up my code i wrote over xmas. Changing Points to DoublePoints and then to Point2D’s etc (took about half hour of pissing around to do that), removed a ton of code from one class, moved to others etc.
But anywoo, i managed to

Geeks + Duct Tape = …?

Saturday, January 28th, 2006

Picture the scene, its a LAN party and there isnt room to sit. How can you solve this problem? Well, as many geeks will know, most Lans are usualy filled with inventive types who will sacrifice much to play their games. And so, with a roll of duct tape, sensible positioning of cusions and a convinient Steel Girder the solution was found.

Why use the floor to sit upon, when u can be taped to the underside of a girder and play the games with your computer ontop of a cabinet. Its genius, the only problems i have is that ur neck would probably compain quite quickly and so i’d prefer to have my head strapped

Egg-celent News

Ha ha, never to be outdone with cheesy headlines nor to fail my adoring public with my comedy wit, once again my vocabularic fortay has won your eyes once more.
Todays tit-bit of news worthy goss is about penguins. :) I’m sure many of you will remember the sad tale of woe for a pair of love sick parents for their 3-month old baby who was stolen from their careing flippers just before christmas.
Toga, the 3 month old Jackass Penguin was stolen from its enclosure in Amazon World on the Isle of Wight. World wide coverage and £25,000 rewards later but Toga was never heard of again :(
But there is still hope, Kyala and Oscar havnt lost

Transparent Screens

Tuesday, January 24th, 2006

This awsome bit of kit isnt in production yet, but its going to be sweet as when it does.
The idea of transparency in computers is old, being able to see through an image to what lies behind is a common thing to do these days. But the next generation of LCD monitors are being created which are transparent themselves, making your icons seem to float in mid air or giving the impression that you can put your hand through the screen to grab the items behind your monitor.
How its done? Who knows, all i know is its very clever and i must get my hands on one…
There is demonistrations of the systems working

City Creator

Tuesday, January 24th, 2006

Found this awsome little site that lets you basicaly create your own Pixel art citys with a nice easy drag drop interface. its a bit buggy at times unfortunatly, but its stil very cool. You have 3 city types to choose from, and use drag and drop pieces from the palettes on the left onto the space on the right. Its really that simple :) youve got some People to put in, or roofs, roads and scenery changes, its hardly extensive, but the fact its so fast and cool makes up for that problem. :)
Ive tried to make a nice little town, but it keeps loosing my buildings and i cant click them again.

Business Class

Monday, January 23rd, 2006

Found this guys Business card, its a steel die cut which forms the basis for a set of lock picks :D
From the site:
“A hacker, entrepreneur, and all around mischief maker, Melvin wanted something he could give to peers and prospective clients that spoke of this nature.

A lockpick concept was chosen very early on, and the post production results were excellent. The picks can quite easily be removed from the card and are entirely functional as lockpicks.”

Power of Dreams

Friday, January 20th, 2006

Honda have always been at the front with their TV commercials, they are quirky, brilliantly written storys opposed to the cold hard facts most car adverts try. The Gears commercial was done in the real world by 2 people and a camcorder over a week with a ridiculous 606 takes. Often Honda make adverts that just work for brand reinforcement, the recent “Imposible Dream” is just a nice advert for Honda corp, as is the “Hate” ad, with flying Diesel engines :)
But i digress…
I recently found the latest commercial for the Honda Civic, and once again they stick to their well known formulars of great advertising. This time, rather than showing a car

Geek Factor 9

Friday, January 20th, 2006

Hey people,
In my efforts to avoid work, i have managed to create something thats reasonably cool, its a Phobia list, but not just any list, oh no. It has a simple text box as its interface, thats it. Start typing the name of a phobia and it’ll autocomplete and if u use the cursors to select (havnt got mouse selects working yet) it’ll show you the definition to the side.
Check it out here, its not pretty, but its a demonstration of the principles. :)
